“Our strategic decision to concentrate on sustainable solutions for the housing and construction markets requires us to set an extremely strong example on environmental and sustainable development issues”
Pierre-André de Chalendar,
Chief Executive Officer
Our customers are demanding more sustainable products and we are meeting that need through substantial investment in manufacturing. A key focus is on improving our consumption of raw materials through the re-use and recycling of waste products. We design products that are sustainable at manufacture, throughout their life and recyclable at the end of their lifespan.
Saint-Gobain’s commitment to sustainability means that we must set the standards for minimising our impact across all our operations; reducing waste and emissions, optimising energy consumption and preserving natural resources. Many of our companies are accredited with the ISO 14001 environmental standard, with more working towards implementation.
The decision to join the United Nations Global Compact in 2004 placed responsible and sustainable development at the centre of Saint-Gobain’s strategy and daily practice, with the integration of the Ten Principles of the Compact.
Weber sets standard with BREEAM factory
When façades, tile fixing, flooring and construction mortars manufacturer Weber set about designing and building a new production and warehouse facility, it wanted to create a flagship site that would minimise energy use and meet the most stringent emissions criteria.
Built to BREEAM certification standards, the state-of-the-art 5,500m2 factory follows an architectural and technical template already successfully employed by Weber in several other European countries, combining modern technology with innovative design –including the use of weber.therm XP, Weber’s Exterior Wall Insulation (EWI) system – to deliver significant environmental benefits and cost savings.
