Awards and Achievements

  • In 2010, Saint-Gobain Group was for the first time included in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) for the quality of the information provided about its carbon emissions and strategy. Saint-Gobain scored 89 out of 100 for its disclosure (up from 67 in 2009), was rated B for its carbon performance and was ranked 5th overall in the industrials sector of the 2010 Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

 

  • Having eliminated waste from 70,000 tonnes per year to zero in April 2010, this achievement has been recognised as setting a precedent for the rest of the construction industry to follow, both in terms of environmental benefits and achieving significant cost savings. The company now sends no plasterboard or plaster waste to landfill and has a zero plaster/plasterboard waste to landfill policy.

 

  • Companies from our Building Distribution Sector collected 7 Silver awards at the 2011 RoSPA National Occupational Health and Safety Awards. The awards are designed to recognise both the highest standards of health and safety management and continuous improvement over a period of time.

 

  • Several of our UK and Ireland companies achieved OHSAS 18001 certification during 2010, including Gypsum Industries and Irish Gypsum, International Timber and Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics. Jewson St Austell became our first Building Distribution site to be certified with OHSAS 18001.

 

  • British Gypsum has been awarded a trophy by charity CRASH for the ‘Most Donated Materials’ for the plasterboard it supplied for their projects around the UK to help the homeless. In total, £15,000 of British Gypsum products have been provided, which is equivalent to over 7,000 m2 of plasterboard.

 

  • Saint-Gobain PAM UK LTD has been awarded certification to the world class, ISO accredited CEMARS standard by the Achilles carbon Reduction programme.

 

  • Calders & Grandidge won the Mayor of London’s Ethical Sourcing category at the GLA Responsible Procurement Awards for their work in securing hardwood sleepers and crossing timbers from FSC and PEFC certified sources.

 

  • Saint-Gobain PAM won the Health and Safety Award at the Society of British Water and Wastewater Industries (SBWWI) Annual Awards.

 

  • Solaglas won Component Supplier of the Year at the G10 Awards for its EcoClear®+ range of energy efficient sealed window units.

 

  • Solaglas Windowcare was commended in the Best Health and Safety Achievement in Construction category at the 2010 Safety and Health Practitioner Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (SHP IOSH) Awards.
