Group’s Principles of Conduct and Action

The Saint-Gobain Group has developed a number of shared principles applied by both management and employees that have guided the Group's activities over the years. The purpose of this document is also to make a public statement of Saint-Gobain’s adherence to these basic principles of conduct and action, which apply to all companies within the Group regardless of where they carry on business.

ISO14001

ISO 14001 is the corner stone standard of the ISO 14000 series. It specifies a framework of control for an Environmental Management System against which an organization can be certified by a third party.

Decarbonising

To remove carbon from.

Code for Sustainable Homes

The national standard for the sustainable design and construction of new homes. The Code aims to reduce our carbon emissions and create homes that are more sustainable. It applies in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Code is not a set of regulations, it goes further than the current building regulations, but is entirely voluntary, and is intended to help promote even higher standards of sustainable design. The Code measures the sustainability of a new home against nine categories of sustainable design, rating the 'whole home' as a complete package. It covers Energy/CO 2 , Water, Materials, Surface Water Runoff (flooding and flood prevention), Waste, Pollution, Health and Well-being, Management and  Ecology.

The Code uses a one to six star rating system to communicate the overall sustainability performance of a new home against these nine categories. It sets minimum standards for energy and water use at each level and, within England, replaces the EcoHomes scheme, developed by the Building Research Establishment (BRE).

Passive House

Refers to the rigorous, voluntary, Passivhaus standard for energy efficiency in a building, reducing its ecological footprint.  It results in ultra-low energy buildings that require little energy for space heating or cooling.

Multi-Comfort House

A concept, not for a specific type of building. The principles of the Multi-Comfort House concept are for new and refurbished buildings to be energy efficient and maximise living comfort (based on Passive House principles).

UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC)

The UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC) is a membership organisation that is campaigning for a sustainable built environment – one that minimises negative environmental impacts while maximising benefits for people everywhere. They are concerned with homes and non-domestic buildings, both new and existing, and the infrastructure that binds them together.

Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)

An organisation based in the United Kingdom which works with shareholders and corporations to disclose the greenhouse gas emissions of major corporations. The Carbon Disclosure Project is an independent not-for-profit organization holding the largest database of primary corporate climate change information in the world.

Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI)

CDP recognizes companies with high-quality disclosure as top scoring companies in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).

CDLI scores are calculated according to a standardized methodology which measures whether and how well, a company responds to each question. A company is awarded points if it reports its greenhouse gas emissions, but the actual amount of emissions does not affect its score. CDLI scores provide a valuable perspective on the range and quality of responses to CDP’s questionnaire.

OHSAS 18001

An internationally recognised assessment specification for occupational health and safety management systems. It was developed by a selection of leading trade bodies, international standards and certification bodies to address a gap where no third-party certifiable international standard exists.

OHSAS 18001 has been designed to be compatible with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, to help organisation meet their health and safety obligations in an efficient manner.

CEMARS standard

CEMARS (Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme) is the world-class standard adopted by Achilles for its carbonReduction programme.  It is the world’s first internationally accredited greenhouse gas certification scheme to ISO14065.

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) produces one of the world's most prevalent standards for sustainability reporting - also known as ecological footprint reporting, Environmental Social Governance (ESG) reporting, Triple Bottom Line (TBL) reporting, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) reporting. Sustainability reporting is a form of value reporting where an organisation publicly communicates their economic, environmental, and social performance. GRI seeks to make sustainability reporting by all organisations as routine as, and comparable to, financial reporting.
