An iconic mix of heritage and modern engineering, the stunning extended Victorian rail station of St. Pancras International is a transport hub with a difference.
Constructed within the existing and extended Grade 1 listed Victorian structure the new St. Pancras needed to balance the requirements of English Heritage with meeting the needs of modern commuters.
Saint-Gobain brands contributed to the structure including 17,500m2 of laminated glass from Glassolutions, drainage solutions from Saint-Gobain PAM UK and drywall partitions from British Gypsum to divide the business lounge, retail units and ticket areas.
As natural light varies, it was crucial to ensure a constant quality of light by combining the use of artificial light and natural daylight. The solution Glassolutions specified for the project further enhanced the original design of the building, thanks to an abundance of natural lighting techniques. In total, over 10,000m2 of individually shaped glass panels were fitted to the main station roof, also known as the ‘Barlow Shed’.
A two hour fire rating was achieved using 15mm Gyproc Fireline on a GYPWALL CLASSIC system, ensuring effective separation from the station concourse above.
Manufactured to provide energy efficient and beautiful solutions for modern buildings Thanks to its multiple layers SGG STADIP PROTECT by Glassolutions provides safety glass that can be adjusted to various levels of protection.
Timesaver and Ensign soil, vent and rainwater systems and 2,500 tonnes of ductile iron segmental tunnel linings, comprising of more than 700 complete rings and opening sets were supplied by Saint-Gobain PAM UK. The TIMESAVER system is a trusted and durable solution, and was awarded the highly coveted BSI Kitemark in 1982.
