Weston SuperMare's Dolphin Square opts for Saint-Gobain PAM UK Ensign soil system

Iron technology leader Saint-Gobain PAM UK, part of leading materials company, has installed its Ensign soil and rainwater systems at prestigious commercial, industrial and public sector developments throughout the UK and the Ensign brand leads the market for above and below ground drainage solution across a wide array of projects.

One recent example can be found at Dolphin Square, a retail development in Weston Super Mare. In summer 2012, work started on a £45 million scheme to transform Dolphin Square from a rundown area on the sea front – dating back to the 60s - into an impressive shopping and leisure complex including an eight-screen cinema, Brewers Fayre, bowling alley, eight shops, eight restaurants, cafes, and a Premier Inn hotel.

Ensign Soil was used in the basement of the hotel and in the new multi-storey car park, at the rear of a parade of shops. The main contractor was McLarens of Essex.

Nigel Keegan of Saint-Gobain PAM commented: “Our Ensign system was specified by Fascilitas of Gloucester, the company in charge of the mechanical package. They opted for this fit-and-forget system as one of the most versatile cast iron system on the market and the only drainage system kitemark approved to BS EN 877. It was supplied to Fascilitas by Drain Center, Bristol.”

Ensign comprises pipes and fittings from 50-600mm diameter for above ground applications and 100, 150-600mm diameter for below ground. The system can be connected by cast iron mechanical joints or push-fit joints for both above and below ground applications. Allowing total interchangeability, Ensign is ideal where fit-and-forget is a priority, such as under large commercial buildings. For installations in unstable ground or ground containing methane gases, a below ground Timesaver system with immense crush-resistance, as a result of its substantial section thickness, is an ideal solution.
