Gibbs & Dandy is to launch a new training scheme, dubbed A Modern Apprenticeship, in a bid to encourage the development of young talent in the industry.
The company is partnering with the BMF (Builders Merchants Federation) to create a scheme with a difference: the apprenticeship, which last 12-15 months, offers a nationally recognised qualification in Customer Service: NVQ Level 3, and provides participants with full training, support and regular mentoring from a qualified assessor.
Seven branches - Bedford, Bournemouth, East Dulwich, Henley-on-Thames, Hereford, Luton and Pudsey - are each seeking apprentices, who’ll receive pay above the national average and a guaranteed job at the end of the programme.
Neil Lawrence, managing director at Gibbs & Dandy, comments: “Young people are an absolutely invaluable resource in our industry, and it’s our aim to do everything we can to help them get on the ladder. Our apprentices will take a hands-on approach to ensure they get an insight into everything from branch ops to customer service, and they’ll really be given the chance to shine in the final quarter of their programme, when they’ll get to take on their own project. The opportunities and benefits of the scheme far exceed those of similar programmes, and provide a true reflection of the real-life working day of someone in our industry – that’s why we’ve called it A Modern Apprenticeship.”
