Saint-Gobain has become the group with the most Environmental Product Declarations published in the International EPD®system.
In the UK, brands including British Gypsum, Isover and Ecophon, have registered multiple products in the International EPD® System, in compliance with the European standard EN 15804 to provide the Core Category Rules.
In life cycle assessment, an EPD accredited to EN15804 is an independently verified and registered document that quantifies a product’s environmental footprint in accordance with the European standard.
Lindsay Walker, Project Director for Customer Waste Services and Eco-Innovation at Saint-Gobain UK, said: “We are proud to be part of the Group with the most EPDs registered in the International EPD®System. At Saint-Gobain, the first Life Cycle Analyses (LCAs) were carried out in the early 1990s and since then, we have chosen LCA as the main tool for measuring the environmental footprint of our products.
“EPDs are a sustainability priority for Saint-Gobain businesses, as they provide key life cycle analysis information for architects, specifiers and contractors of sustainable buildings.
“By the end of 2015, Saint-Gobain UK had 61 EPDs with 31 accredited to EN15804, and this focus will continue into 2016-17 with EPDs being developed by all brands across their products and systems.”
