WWF-UK Awards Highest Rating For Sourcing Sustainable Timber

WWF Awards highest rating for sourcing sustainable timber

Saint-Gobain UK & Ireland’s commitment to purchasing sustainable timber and timber products has been recognised in World Wildlife Fund UK’s (WWF-UK) 2017 Timber Scorecard.

Its Building Distribution businesses were awarded the maximum possible score of ‘Three Trees’ for sourcing over 99.3% certified sustainable wood and implementing policies to drive sustainability.

The 2017 Timber Scorecard is part of WWF-UK’s on-going programme to raise awareness of the importance of responsible forest trade. Specifically, the Scorecard drives transparency on environmental issues by assessing whether UK businesses are securing timber and timber products from responsible sources.

Commenting on the award, Alan Holcombe, Purchasing & Sustainable Sourcing Director for Saint-Gobain, said: "Having previously been awarded the 'Three Tree' rating on the inaugural 2015 Timber scorecard, we are proud to be recognised by WWF-UK again. We've been a member of WWF-UK's Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN) since 1998 and we aim to source 100% sustainable timber by 2020."

"We're honouring this commitment – by the end of 2016, 99.3% of our timber was Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certified – and we look forward to continue working closely with WWF-UK towards our target.”
