Over the last ten years Saint-Gobain has spent 8.5 million euros helping charities and individuals around the world through the Foundation Initiative, including several projects in the UK and Ireland. To celebrate this significant anniversary Saint-Gobain has launched a new website and a worldwide engagement campaign for employees, ‘Time to Act’ to encourage employees to suggest future projects for the initiative.
In 2008, the Group General Management and its CEO Pierre-André de Chalendar decided to create a structure to help support local communities and inclusive social development in fields related to Saint-Gobain’s areas of expertise: sustainable construction and renovation of social housing, and the professional integration of young adults. And so, the Saint-Gobain Foundation was born.
Since 2008, the initiative’s core mission has not changed. What has changed is the scale as the programme now has a budget of €1.6 million per year and around 20 projects supported each year by Group employees and retirees. The aim of the Time to Act! campaign is to expand the field of action, grow the Foundation further and involve an increasing number of employees by encouraging them to engage in their own way and to their own capability. This may mean becoming a sponsor, volunteer, expert, ambassador or a supporter by increasing awareness of the Foundation around them or by taking the time to find out about the associations and projects supported.
So far the Foundation has supported more than 144 initiatives worldwide, including projects in England, Scotland and Ireland.
