Overlooking The Lowry and Imperial War Museum on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal, the BBC’s landmark Media City is Europe’s biggest dedicated media centre and has become the new home for the BBC in the North. This follows the decision to relocate key London departments, including BBC Sport, BBC Children’s and Radio 5 Live to the site in 2011.
The new facility houses TV and radio studios, a five storey office building and a mix of commercial and residential areas. As part of the multi-million pound project, several Saint-Gobain companies were involved in supplying materials for the state of the art media centre.
To provide solutions that would meet the BBC’s high acoustic standards throughout the building. With even residential areas specified as a minimum of 3 dB above Building Regulations requirements, the challenge was set to deliver products and systems that met the Corporation’s stringent requirements.
As part of the multi-million pound project, several Saint-Gobain companies including Saint-Gobain PAM, Isover and British Gypsum were involved in supplying materials for the state-of-the-art media centre, to meet the BBC’s high acoustic, thermal efficiency and sustainability standards throughout the building.
