Building Sustainability Certification Barometer published

The 2019 edition of the Building Sustainability Certification Barometer has been published - compiling important data on the growth of Green buildings across 21 European countries.

The new barometer report published by Green Soluce and available here analyses data from 21 countries and provides insight into the amount of buildings certified to official green building labelling schemes.

The UK continues to be a hub of activity with data showing that buildings in the UK are almost wholly validated using the BREEAM sustainability assessment method.

Key findings in the report, which looks at buildings during the calendar 2018 include:

  • There is continued growth in sustainability certification - with the number of certifications doubling in 2018 compared to 2017. This growth has been continual since 2008
  • Office buildngs are a particular growth area for building sustainabilty certification
  • Poland and Sweden are increasingly important areas of intensity - in addition to Germany, France and the UK
  • In London, more than half of the complete office certifications are at the highest levels of certification [either 'Excellent' or 'Outstanding']

The barometer also reports on the growth in other certification schemes inluding in areas of Wellbeing, digital and biodiversity with schemes such as: Biodivercity®, WiredScore and the Well™ standard.
