Introduction:

The Winnersh Triangle business park, located in the heart of the Thames Valley, provides commercial and industrial space to a wide range of businesses. The complex spans 85 acres and includes a workout suite, café, and conference center, as well as over 50 enterprises such as Virgin Media, Bang & Olufsen, and Intel.

Problem:

Glassolutions was hired to fabricate and install 3400m2 of curtain-wall façade for the Winnersh Triangle project.A new multi-occupancy office structure on the site was commissioned with a totally glass façade and a contemporary appearance. The Winnersh Triangle is recognized for its sustainability and efficiency, thus it was critical to include it while planning the project. The customer had specified requirements for air tightness, and sun control glass was desired.

Solutions:

Glassolutions used a range of components to optimize the building envelope's efficiency. The Schueco FW60+ and FW60+ SG curtain walling systems were installed; they were the best options for assisting with interior climate management because of their thermal rating of 1.5w/m2k. To lessen thermal bridging, the outside glass was composed of 6mm COOL-LITE SKN174 panes combined with a 16mm argon warm edge spacer bar. The outstanding solar management qualities of the COOL-LITE panes minimize the demand for air conditioning within the structure by lowering glare and regulating heat transmission.

Even though thermal efficiency was a top priority for the development, the brief also included noise management. The 10mm transparent toughened heat-soak treated acoustic glass used for the inner panes was fitted by Glassolutions because of its exceptional noise reduction qualities (37 dB Rw).

Ultimately, Glassolutions created and implemented a unique and intricate brise soleil, designed by EPR Architects, to control the facade's solar gain. The curtain wall system was solely responsible for supporting the system's loads.

Benefits:

November 2015 saw the completion of the glazing contract for Winnersh Triangle. The project has exceeded its initial requirements; specifically, the installation has just attained an Air Tightness Rating of 2.1m3/hr/m2, surpassing the extremely stringent criterion of 3m3/hr/m2. The contractors and architects involved have responded to this with great positivity. Darren Grinham, the project manager of Wates, called the work a "excellent delivery."

We care about building better.

Client's Words:

"The air test results are very good, and one we should all be very proud of."
