Introduction:

The anaerobic digester at Lodge Farm Biogas Ltd. is one of the main innovations in waste management offered by Wrexham's Fre-energy, a leading inventor in the UK. Their innovative combination de-gritting and gas actuated mixing technology works as an effective slurry and food waste management system, handling slurries and high-strength wastes that are packed with grit.

Problem:

The primary objective was to reduce the amount of ammonia from the lagoon and curb the emissions of harmful gases from entering the atmosphere.

Solution:

Pouring Leca® Aerotop directly on top of the slurry provided a quick and easy solution. This created an excellent floating protective cover for a lagoon or slurry tank. When Leca® Agri is placed on top of slurry, it can reduce gas emissions and unpleasant smells by up to 85%. Complying with EU norms and BAT recommendations (Best Available Techniques), the Leca® Aerotop floating cover solution is intended to reduce gas emissions (mostly ammonia) from liquid animal waste and may be used in the same capacity as closed tanks. On the other hand, the Leca® Aerotop offered a barrier to preserve the nutrients produced by the farm in the slurry.

Benefits:

Thanks to the special qualities of Leca® Aerotop, hazardous gasses are kept from entering the nearby countryside, where they may cause injury and contamination. Many farmers find it extremely difficult to comply with these government programs and objectives to cut gas emissions, especially ammonia, and get rid of the unpleasant odors coming from slurry tanks.

We care about building better.

Client's Words:

"The material did exactly what we required and this was to provide an effective cover for our lagoon with the aim of reducing the amount of ammonia released into the surrounding area. The material was quickly blown onto site with the Leca blowing machine with no issues and quickly covered the lagoon which is over 1200m2 in size. This operation took only a few hours to complete. The floating nature of the material quickly provided a floating cover for the slurry pit.
The time saving solution provided by Leca® Aerotop was key performance indicator for us, we needed to find a product which would effectively reduce emissions of Ammonia and provide a protective layer for keeping the nutrients within the slurry in our farms."
