Saint-Gobain UK are partnering with north Wales decarbonisation hub Tŷ Gwyrddfai and the region’s largest housing association, Adra, to launch a new training hub near Penygroes.
The training hub will focus on delivering high-quality, recognised qualifications in construction solutions and skills that are needed to undertake high quality housing retrofit. The new hub will providing skills in construction and housing retrofit for college students as well as tradespeople in North Wales and beyond.

About the courses we offer at Tŷ Gwyrddfai, Penygroes, Training Hub
Retrofitting existing homes to make them warmer, less expensive to heat, and improve the comfort and wellbeing of residents is a critical shared priority of both Saint-Gobain & Tŷ Gwyrddfai. The initial training on offer at the centre will focus on providing installers and supervisors with key skills to improve homes including a focus on loft, internal and external wall insulation.

Installers
Duration: 3 Days
- Blended Learning Structure: The course spans over three days and includes a mix of e-learning and practical training.
- E-learning Modules: Before the practical sessions, participants will engage in online learning covering the whole building approach to retrofit, retrofit terminology, moisture management, and an overview of Saint-Gobain solutions (EWI, IWI, Loft).
- Practical Sessions: These hands-on sessions focus on the installation of External Wall Insulation, Internal Wall Insulation, and loft insulation.
Supervisors
Duration: 2 Days
- Blended Learning Structure: This two-day course also combines e-learning and practical training tailored for supervisors.
- E-learning Modules: Supervisors will start with online modules that delve into the whole building approach to retrofit and the impact of retrofit on people.
- Theory: The theoretical part covers pre-install survey requirements, moisture management, and common faults in junction detailing.
- Practical Sessions: Supervisors will participate in practical training focused on overseeing the installation process ensuring they can manage their teams effectively.
