OUR ACTIONS AND TARGETS FOR SUSTAINABILITY
At Saint-Gobain we are committed to ensuring that our activities, our employees and our partners work together to build a more sustainable and inclusive world.
Our 2030 Targets
To structure our sustainability approach, we have set several objectives to reach by 2030.
- Water Management in our manufacturing sites
- CO2 emissions (reduction target in absolute value)
- Circular economy reducing virgin raw materials use and waste generation
- Transparency through life-cycle assessments (LCA)
Reducing CO2 Emissions - Our Net-Zero Carbon Target
Saint-Gobain committed to net-zero carbon by 2050 by signing the UN Global Compact’s "Business Ambition for 1.5°C" in 2019.
To meet its targets, Saint-Gobain will dedicate a targeted capital expenditure and R&D budget of around €100 million per year until 2030. This approach will be the basis for the decisions that the Group will take to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Two internal carbon prices have also been introduced (€100/tonne of eq. CO₂ for investments, 200€/tonne for R&D projects) to encourage the use of low-carbon technologies.

Our transition to a circular economy
The circular economy is a growth model that adapts to changing resources. Transitioning to it ensures long-term solutions that balance environmental, labor, and societal needs while promoting well-being, sustainability, and performance. Our circular economy strategy focuses on:
- Reducing reliance on virgin raw materials by integrating more recycled or renewable materials, extending product lifespan, and facilitating recycling or reuse.
- Developing new manufacturing processes.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to create new business models and value chains.
Product Stewardship: Increasing Transparency
Saint-Gobain has long promoted Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to better understand and manage the environmental impact of its products. LCAs guide innovation, provide transparency for customers, and meet growing market demands.
By 2030, the Group aims for 100% of its revenue to come from products with verified LCAs or Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), excluding distribution activities.
With over 1,800 verified EPDs published across 35+ countries, Saint-Gobain is the global leader in verified EPDs by volume in the construction sector.
Improving Water Management
Saint-Gobain's Water Policy aims to minimize the impact of its activities on water resources, focusing on reducing both intake and discharge. The long-term goal is to withdraw minimal water and achieve "zero discharge" of industrial water, while avoiding negative effects on natural environments and stakeholders.
The Group is committed to:
- Reducing water withdrawals and optimizing processes to minimize consumption.
- Reusing process water when possible.
- Recycling water with proper treatments.
- Controlling discharges to prevent pollution.
- Ensuring no competition with local population
