Abbey Wall Development – Southwest London
Introduction:
Thanks to a pre-manufactured steel framed system from Intrastack, a brand-new six-story apartment building at the Abbey Wall development in Merton, Southwest London, was built more than a third faster than standard concrete methods while reducing on-site safety hazards.
Built in approximately 25 weeks by RJB Interiors for primary developer Indigo Scott, the mixed-use residential project has 66 apartments on the ground level and a ground-floor commercial space.
Problem:
A more adaptable and lighter framework was needed to sustain the building because of the six stories and composite concrete floor.
SOLUTION:
With every building project, Indigo Scott is dedicated to enhancing its sustainable credentials. In order to lower the overall carbon footprint, the company prioritizes thermal performance and is committed to decreasing on-site waste.
This meant that because of its high degree of airtightness and thermal insulation, the Intrastack steel frame system was an obvious choice. Embedded carbon in the building fabric is decreased by 20% and site waste is almost avoided when light steel framing and modular construction are used; this is a significant accomplishment in comparison to the 10% waste that often arises when utilizing standard materials and methods.
Benefits:
Accuracy of the finished structure was to within just a couple of millimeters. Combined with the average lifespan of a steel framed building with warm wall construction, which can be as much as 250 years3, the overall result is a high-quality, durable solution.
We care about building better.
Client's Words:
“Much of the build also took place during the winter months with exposure to the British weather. The steel frame is less dependent on site and weather conditions during construction than traditional methods and has enabled a greater productivity rate on site.”
Light Gauged Steel System
Light gauge steel construction allows for rapid, versatile, and cost-effective structures of various storey heights. The Intrastack service leverages off-site manufacturing concepts to improve existing capabilities.
