Queenferry-crossing

Saint-Gobain brands provided their expertise and materials to the construction of the Queensferry Crossing, the 2.7km long bridge linking Edinburgh and Fife.

THE TASK

The Crossing is the longest three-tower, cable-stayed bridge in the world and also the largest to feature cables which cross mid-span. Saint-Gobain brands Leca and Frazer contributed to work at the entry and exit points of the structure to connect it to the existing road network.


LET’S GET TECHNICAL

Due to soft peat, underlying alluvial materials and potential environmental issues Leca applied a tailormade solution to the project, avoiding the traditional route of a conventional fill for Lightweight Aggregate (LWA). This approach minimised post-construction settlement and differential settlement issues.
