Introduction:

Over 100m3 of LECA LWA (10-20mm) was recently specified for the repair of the underground piping system at Stepps Primary School in Glasgow, where there was a severe issue with the existing water piping system, resulting in water leaking under the school's floor - posing a serious risk to the school's flooring and causing serious groundwork concerns over time.

Problem:

The developers needed to verify that the material had specified features, such as being fire resistant, lightweight enough not to impose undue weight on the existing foundation, offering solid structural stability, and being conveniently transportable into constricted locations with limited access.

Solution:

LECA LWA could meet all of these needs by being lightweight, strong, and fire resistant, as well as having the unique ability to be pneumatically delivered at a quick pace via a hose piping system with a reach of up to 50 metres.

Benefits:

It is the first the time LECA UK has used a third-party partner to pneumatically deliver items to the site. This was a success, and the hauliers who monitored the pneumatic delivery gave favorable input on how lightweight the material was throughout delivery.
