A culture that fits: Lola's Story
Why Saint-Gobain isn’t just where I work, it’s where I’ve grown, felt heard, and truly belonged, says Lola Ayo-Odugbesan, Product Analyst.
When I joined Saint-Gobain in August 2023 as a Product Analyst focused on infrastructure within IT services, I was looking for something more than a job. After years of contracting across different companies, what I craved was stability – a real team I could grow with and see the impact of my work. Contracting had its benefits, but projects often ended before I could witness the change I helped initiate. This time, I wanted to stay, contribute, and evolve alongside my colleagues.
Coming into Saint-Gobain, I was very specific: no more contracts. And honestly, I felt the difference right away. It may sound like I’m selling it, but it’s the first place I’ve worked where I truly feel the company cares about me – not just as an employee, but as a person. The team dynamic is genuine; we collaborate, support each other, and work together like a real unit.
In just a short time, I’ve grown tremendously. I've completed certified trainings and I'm already registered for another. I feel encouraged and supported to keep developing – not only in my role but as a professional.
Curiosity and connection
Inclusion here isn’t just lip service. I was invited to join the Together as One group – our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) steering committee. We celebrate cultures, educate colleagues, and highlight awareness months in a meaningful way. I learned so much during South Asian Celebration Month – not just about individuals, but about traditions, festivals, and food across the region. It’s not about tokenism; it’s about genuine curiosity and connection.
As a Nigerian woman, I’ve often been the only female or one of very few ethnic minorities in tech environments. That can be isolating. But here, it’s different. At Saint-Gobain, I’m not “the only one” in the room – I’m simply a colleague. My work is recognised and respected, and the team genuinely collaborates with me. That’s the biggest standout: I feel valued.
Even during the interview process, I felt seen. Expectations were clear, and I didn’t feel pressured to fit a mould. That transparency carried through into the workplace. From day one, I’ve felt heard. I’ve found a place that invests in me, both professionally and personally. And honestly, I feel at home in my workplace. This is somewhere I could stay for a long time.
