Newark Development Plans
Saint-Gobain UK have developed a vision for previously quarried and filled land off Staple Lane, Newark.
The proposals include a balanced development of housing, community facilities and public open space in line Newark and Sherwood’s Core Strategy. The proposals are at an early stage and have not yet been submitted as a formal planning application. We are currently seeking input and feedback from the Council as part of an engagement process before any masterplan is finalised and submitted to the Council for consideration.
Plans could include considerable open play, woodland and community gardens.
The proposals seek to deliver much-needed sustainable housing for local people for both private sale and affordable rent, open areas for sports and play, woodland and community gardens. These proposals do not impact on Saint-Gobain’s Formula operations at Newark which would continue as an important local employer and manufacturer of high-quality gypsum products for construction, agriculture and food industries among others.
Plans are at a very early stage and a full public consultation process will be undertaken to share plans with the local community and seek their input.
Update on Proposed Development Forum meeting (2nd June 2026).
We have requested that the Development Forum meeting be postponed.
Full comment from Sain-Gobain UK (28th May 2026) is below:
Firstly, we are aware of the incredible public response online to this consultation forum for our proposals at Middlebeck Way. We are greatly appreciative of this as it allows for meaningful engagement. To ensure we are able to provide residents with information to answer all of the queries raised to date and in the future, we have politely requested that the forum is postponed while we are at this very early stage.
We stress that this is just a postponement. We intend to host a wider public consultation process in the local area focussed on sharing our plans in detail and obtaining the views of local residents when we have more developed plans and will be able to provide more detailed information that answers the many questions local people might have.
As a business with long-standing roots in Newark and employing many local people we are keen to work with local residents, members and all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the proposals we develop delivers the right type of sustainable housing for local people for both private sale and affordable rent, as well as high quality open areas for sports and play, woodland and community gardens.
We thank you for your understanding and we will keep everybody informed of the public consultation that will be held in future.
