Saint-Gobain UK and logistics partners recognise drivers for their safety and sustainability actions

Saint-Gobain has once again joined forces with its logistics partners to recognise the best and most sustainable drivers from across the Saint-Gobain fleet in its annual Driver of the Year awards.

Colleagues, suppliers and a host of drivers from the Saint-Gobain fleet who met the qualifying criteria gathered in Castle Donington to take part a final round of skill, safety, precision and safety river task as part of the 2025 Saint-Gobain Driver of the Year awards.

The 2025 event recognised drivers from across all Saint-Gobain sites, including British Gypsum, Isover, Weber, PAM, Pasquill, Okarno and Glassolutions and saw the shortlist of 24 drivers take part in a series of challenges. These test the hopefuls on their skill, expertise, and professionalism, taking on challenges such as tight manoeuvring, reversing, spotting defects and dealing with customer deliver points.

The event also showcased Saint-Gobain and its logistics partners continued commitment to sustainability, reducing the impact of HGV’s on the environment through the transition to alternative fuels – with more than 70% of its fleet now powered by Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil.

Saint-Gobain also showcased their school safety programme, which engages with local schools on safety around HGV’s, and aims to reach 2,000 children in 2026, a rise from the goal of 1,000 in 2025.

BRIAN FISHER, Head of Distribution, at Saint-Gobain UK & Ireland, said:
“It was great to see so many of our drivers from across Saint-Gobain in attendance, celebrating each other and their achievements. They are in front of customers every day and to many are the public face of our business delivering essential solutions to our customers every day. Taking time to recognise their skills and expertise and thank them for their daily efforts.

As well as driving skills we also celebrated the most ‘sustainable driver’. As well as the investments we are making in new technology and fuel, such as HVO, driving behaviour can have a big impact on the emissions from our transport. We also used the event to look forward to ways we are continuing to develop our work with drivers in the future and going further on sustainability and teaching the next generation how to be safe around large vehicles. Congratulations to all the winners– they should take
great pride in being recognised for what they do each day.”

DAN MYERS, Managing Director – UK and Ireland, XPO Logistics, said:
“This event is about more than recognising individual excellence — it’s about celebrating a shared commitment to high standards. Together with Saint-Gobain, we’re proud to champion the professionalism and skill of the drivers who are at the heart of our service. By co-investing in fleet and people, we’re backing our values with action — and building a safer, more sustainable and more customer-focused future, together.”
